The Port of Shanghai located in the vicinity of Shanghai, comprises a deep-sea port and a river port. In the year 2010, Shanghai port overtook the Port of Singapore to become the world's busiest container port. Shanghai's port handled 29.05 million TEUs, whereas Singapore's was a half million TEU's behind. In 2016, Shanghai port set a historic record by handling over 37 million TEUs.

Non-container terminals in port of Shanghai are referred to as bulk, general cargo and passenger terminal as well. Two bulk cargo terminals and three break-bulk terminals, situated in Luojing, Wusong and Longwu areas, are dotted along the Huangpu River, downstream of Yangtze River and other areas. The coal terminal is known as the most efficient coal handling port with the best services in East China, whilst the ore terminal is characterized with huge de-loading platforms offering “one-stop” service for both load shedding and two-way transportation targeted major iron and steel companies within the Yangtze River Region.

Three terminals handling general cargo are Zhanghuabang Branch, Luojing Branch and Longwu Branch. Zhanghuabang Branch is specialized in handling heavy lifts including electrical equipment, nuclear power equipment, railway specialty vehicles, boiler equipment, wind power equipment, rail transportation equipment, etc. Luojing Branch, specialized in handling steel products, has established itself a hub for converging and distributing steel products along Yangtze River by means of conclusions of strategic agreements with six major steel mills. Luowu Branch is the largest general cargo terminal of SIPG in terms of land size and designed handling capacity.

Ro/Ro terminal – Shanghai Haitong International Automotive Terminal Co. Ltd., located at Waigaoqiao Phase-4 and Phase-6, is specialized in logistics service by providing integrated solution of vehicles and auto parts, including vehicles handling of domestic and international trade; roll-on and roll-off heavy items; yard stuffing service and PDI management value-added service.
